Bryson DeChambeau has said that “financial reasons” prompted his decision to jump ship for the LIV Golf Series – but added that he still hopes to play the PGA Tour.

The 2020 US Open champion was speaking ahead of this week’s US Open at The Country Club, where he gave an honest assessment of the reasons behind his move to the controversial new Saudi-funded start-up circuit.

“It’s a business decision, first and foremost, and that’s all there was to it,” he told the Golf Channel.

“It’s given me a lot more opportunity outside the game of golf and given me more time with my family and my future family.”

When asked if the decision was money driven, the world No.29 added “there was a lot of financials to it and a lot of time.”

Despite the PGA Tour issuing bans to all LIV defectors, DeChambeau said he still wants to play PGA Tour events in the future.

“I would love to play the Memorial, I would love to play the Arnold Palmer. I would love to play PGA Tour events when they would allow me to.”

When asked if he had come to terms with the fact he might never play on the circuit again, DeChambeau was adamant it wasn’t his decision to make, but he would love to play again when he was given the chance.

“I want to play where people can see entertainment, great entertainment. I’m going to deliver that wherever I’m at.”

This week, DeChambeau, who is coming back from a wrist injury, will be hoping to end a streak of three consecutive missed cuts, which includes a Friday finish at Augusta National in April.
