It’s been some year for Bryson DeChambeau.

He played golf with president-elect Donald Trump and raised a lot of money, then he was invited up on stage at president-elect Donald Trump’s victory speech and raised a lot of eyebrows.

Somehow he managed to win the US Open in the middle of all that drama.

He’s achieved so much in the past few months that you’ve already forgotten he shot 58 at the back end of last season, haven’t you?

• PGA Tour-LIV ‘Showdown’ to offer historic prize fund (and there’s no cash)

• Amateur stars make unusual piece of golf history

It will be interesting to see where DeChambeau ranks his latest achievement, though.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that the 31-year-old has been attempting to hit a hole-in-one over his house.

Playing from a small square of artificial turf on the driveway held down by a couple of kettle bells, DeChambeau has been knocking balls over the roof of his new home in Dallas, Texas, onto a small putting green in the garden.

On day one, he had one attempt. On day two, he had two, and so on.

Wednesday was day 16 and… well, why don’t you see for yourself?

I’m going to get my negative out the way first. We’re not calling it a “hole-in-one” are we? It took 134 attempts! It is a slightly-less-catchy hole-in-134.

Actually, there is one other thing. Khaki shorts and black kicks? Not having that.

That said, fair play. It is some achievement – especially when there is that much glass between you and the pin.

More importantly, it’s really captured the imagination of fans around the world on social media. So many of us tuned in every day to watch him attempt the feat. (Some of us with a small hope of seeing some broken windows, I’m sure.)

But the video has gone crazy. Like, car-AZY! DeChambeau posted the video on his X, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube accounts, and the numbers are jaw-dropping.

At the time of writing, the X post has more than 4.2 million views, the Instagram post has 6.8 million, the TikTok video has 3.3 million, and the YouTube clip just shy of a million. For that one clip alone.

Across the whole series of 16 videos, DeChambeau has racked up a whopping 175 million views across his four channels. One hundred and seventy five MILLION.

For context, that’s about half the population of the United States. And it will almost certainly grow by tens of millions in the coming days.

What’s the next word up from viral? Because DeChambeau is that.

• Bryson DeChambeau calls for end to golf’s civil war

• Is 3D printing the future of golf club design?

How he finds time to be a major champion in all that, only he knows.

We’ve spent much of this year arguing about whether or not DeChambeau is the best golfer on the planet. There’s no denying he’s the most popular.

And for that, Bryson, we salute you.
