CALUM HILL

Tantallon teenager Calum Hill couldn’t keep the smile off his face after enjoying a dream Tuesday practice round at the Scottish Open with American trio Rickie Fowler, Jimmy Walker and Cameron Tringale.

The 19-year-old, a former Merchiston school pupil who now plays his golf through a scholarship at Univeristy of Louisiane Monroe in the USA, qualified for the event at his home course of North Berwick just last weekend and relished the opportunity of playing with world No.9 Fowler, No.12 Walker and No.67 Tringale.

“It was great fun and a fantastic experience,” said a visibly delighted Calum Hill. “I saw them on the range yesterday when we were hitting some balls and I thought why not, so I asked if they had any plans and they invited me along with them.”

“I was passing on a little bit of information” – Calum Hill

Hill, whose parents own a guest house just 500 yards from the historic West Links, also revealed that he’d been filling the PGA Tour stars in with a bit of local knowledge.

“I was passing on a little bit of information,” Hill admitted. “There were a couple of blind holes where I was giving them a few tips as they were asking me where to go but their caddies are pretty good, obviously, and know what they’re doing.”

And just like at North Berwick last weekend, the teenager  will have an army of supporters following him around Gullane, but he says he has absolutely no expectations whatsoever heading into the tournament.

“I don’t have any expectations at all this week” – Calum Hill

“I had a lot of friends and family out there watching me at North Berwick last week and it was great that I played so well in the moment and I really enjoyed it. They’re going to be out in force again this week too; I think some of them are even getting t-shirts made up!

“I don’t have any expectations at all this week. My main aim is to just go out there and have as much fun as I possibly can.”
