It might have been labelled an opposite-field event, but the Corales Puntacana Championship delivered.
A total of 132 players contested the $4 million prize money purse in the Dominican Republic and the winner’s share went right down to the wire.
Somehow, for cult hero Joel Dahmen, it didn’t go his way.
The fan favourite star of Netflix docuseries Full Swing held a two-shot lead with three holes to play before carding three consecutive bogeys.
It handed South African Garrick Higgo a second PGA Tour title – and a first since the Palmetto Championship in 2021. Incredibly, the exact same scenario played out there, too.
“I think I’m in a little bit of shock, honestly,” Dahmen said after finishing T2. “It’s not how you win a golf tournament; I’ll tell you that. I don’t deserve to win it.”
It was a costly collapse, as well, with Higgo claiming $720,000 compared to Dahmen’s $243,400.
