Davis Love III underwent successful open heart surgery this week, as first revealed by legendary CBS broadcaster Jim Nantz.
Love III, a 21-time winner on the PGA Tour, is recovering back home in Florida after a surgery to “resolve a valve issue that doctors had been monitoring for the last ten years.”
Nantz delivered the news live on air during the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open having spoken to 60-year-old Love III.

“I just want to pass along our warmest wishes from the entire golf world… we’re standing behind you, Davis Love III,” Nantz said on the Saturday broadcast.
In a statement, Love III later confirmed: “The procedure was successful and I’m now at home recovering. I went in healthy and came out healthier.
“I’m extremely grateful for all the well wishes, prayers, and messages I have received. I have been blessed with great care at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.

“Dr. John R. Cangemi, Dr. David J. Cangemi, Dr. Peter M. Pollak guided me to this surgery with Dr. John Haney. I’m grateful for them and their teams’ expertise and care, and I am motivated to prove them right and get back to playing golf by this summer!”
Love III served as the United States Ryder Cup captain in 2012 and 2016 and also led his country to Presidents Cup glory in 2022. The 1997 PGA Championship winner was also a vice-captain for Zach Johnson during the 2023 Ryder Cup defeat in Rome.
These days, the veteran of almost 800 PGA Tour starts plays a much lighter schedule. He has played four times in the past two seasons on the PGA Tour Champions circuit, making one top-ten finish.
