There are those that think Tiger Woods could still compete at golf’s elite level, providing absolutely everything falls into place for the ailing 49-year-old.

There are even those who believe the icon can still claim a record-breaking 83rd PGA Tour win.

And then there’s Donald Trump.

The US president welcomed Woods to Washington DC on Thursday as part of a PGA Tour delegation invited for a discussion centred around the “reunification” of the game.

Afterwards, Trump introduced Woods to an adoring crowd at the White House for a reception marking Black History month.

“I was playing with him last week,” Trump said with a smile as fans chanted Woods’ name. “I think he’s got a couple of majors left…. maybe more than that.”

Woods, of course, hasn’t played outside of his TGL venture since last year’s Open Championship at Royal Troon.

He withdrew from last week’s Genesis Invitational after the death of his mother and it is unclear if he will make a return before the Masters in April.

Woods later briefly addressed the crowd, saying it was an “honour” to be at the White House. In 2019, Trump awarded Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom during his first term in office.

Trump also revealed on Thursday that he had held “interesting” discussions with both the PGA Tour and Saudi Public Investment Fund at the White House.

Woods, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and player director Adam Scott met LIV chairman and PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan in a meeting hosted by the president.

The PGA Tour had asked Trump to help broker a deal and his intervention could help a deal be achieved due to his influence with the US Department of Justice, which is investigating on anti-competition grounds.

“We have just concluded a constructive working session at the White House with President Trump and his excellency Yasir Al-Rumayyan,” a PGA Tour statement from Woods, Monahan and Scott read.

“Thanks to the leadership of President Trump, we have initiated a discussion about the reunification of golf. We are committed to moving as quickly as possible and will share additional details as appropriate.

“We share a passion for the game and the importance of reunification. Most importantly, we all want the best players in the world playing together more often and are committed to doing all we can to deliver that outcome for our fans.”
