The major season waits for no one as, just days after the conclusion of the PGA Championship, the field for the US Open is taking shape.

Final Qualifying took place at three sites on Monday, May 19, with eight players punching their ticket to Oakmont via Walton Heath.

The Old Course and New Course combined for a 36-hole shootout, which was won by England’s Jordan Smith.

The two-time DP World Tour winner carded rounds of 64-70 to reach ten-under-par at the Surrey venue, sealing his third US Open appearance.

“I’m really, really happy,” said Smith. “I have heard that it is going to be absolutely brutal, they don’t want any under par scores winning so it’s going to be good fun, a good test and I’m just really happy with how I played today and how the game helped me out.”

A further shot back on nine-under was four-time DP World Tour winner Guido Migliozzi, who followed up his first round 68 with a five-under 67.

The Italian recorded a T4 finish in the 2021 US Open at Torrey Pines and will make his third appearance in the event.

“It’s been a long day and a battle, a bit of a roller coaster today on the course but overall, it’s been a great day,” he said. “I’m pleased that I could do it and go back to one of my favourite tournaments.”

Joining Migliozzi in second was Frenchman Frederic Lacroix and Swede Joakim Lagergren, who will both make their US Open debut.

Meanwhile, Sam Bairstow – who qualified for the US Open via this event last year – finished on eight-under-par after a crucial birdie on his 36th hole.

With eight places and two alternate spots up for grabs, a play-off was required to decide the remaining qualifiers.

Six players finished on seven-under-par, with Ryder Cup Vice Captain Edoardo Molinari, Jacques Kruyswijk and Andrea Pavan earning their US Open place after two extra holes.

Molinari was another who came through qualifying at Walton Heath last year.

The alternate spots were claimed by Matthew Jordan and Robin Williams, while Scot Ryan Lumsden missed out.

Tarao Country Club, in Japan, held the first Final Qualifier, which offered three places in next month’s field.

At ten-under, Yuta Sugiura and Scott Vincent (unofficially) won the event, while Vincent’s former LIV teammate Jinichiro Kozuma also qualified.

And Denmark’s Rasmus Neergaard Petersen topped the standings at Bent Tree Country Club, in Texas, where Sergio Garcia failed to qualify.

James Hahn, Adam Schenk, Lance Simpson (a), Cameron Tankersley (a), Carlos Ortiz -8, and Johnny Keefer sealed the remaining six places.
