Harry Hall just had too much on the line.
World ranking points, FedEx Cup points… oh, and a good few hundred thousand dollars, too.
That, it turns out, was more than enough motivation for the ailing Englishman to drag himself out of an ambulance and finish the Travelers Championship on Sunday.
Hall, the Cornish 27-year-old distinctive for wearing a flat cap on the PGA Tour, picked up a nasty illness in Connecticut that may well have left him bed-ridden on any other week.
Before the third round in the $20million signature event, Hall required medical attention and considered pulling out from the tournament.

It would have made him the sixth player to withdraw all week after a bug hit TPC River Highlands.
Yet Hall persevered, conjuring up the energy to shoot a one-under 69 on Saturday before flying up the leaderboard with a closing 65 on Sunday.
“I was in the locker room debating whether to withdraw or not,” Hall recalled, “because I didn’t feel great at all and ended up teeing off without a warm-up and without a swing.
“Just went straight to the first tee after getting two IVs in the ambulance and just battled my way around for one-under yesterday. I think that kept me in the tournament. I think I just did well to play, to be honest.
“What inspired me to play? I did think it’s a Signature Event if I can just survive 18 holes and not give up any ground or have a chance to have a decent tournament, obviously the points and the money.

“I think anyone else would turn up to work sick if they could make a quarter of a million, I think is what I was in. So I’m definitely turning up.”
It turns out that Hall earned $540,000 (£400,000) for finishing in a tie for ninth, six shots behind the champion Keegan Bradley.
He is up to a career-high ranking of 74th and has climbed inside the top 5o in the FedEx Cup standings.
“Friday night I was sick all night,” Hall continued on Sunday. “Then I woke up, didn’t feel any better, so I went in and got checked out and they put me on two IV drips and then after the round yesterday I was gasping for breath all day on the golf course because it was pretty hot, too.
“I went in for another IV drip after the round. Then I woke up this [Sunday] morning great after like 12 hours of sleep.
“I’m just fortunate I had the mindset to go out there yesterday and finish the round.”
