EUROPEAN TOUR | ABU DHABI HSBC GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
The European Tour has introduced so many changes in recent months that it’s hard to keep track of them all.
Since Keith Pelley arrived at the helm, we’ve had shorts in practice rounds, pre-tournament events like the Hero Challenge, new event formats and the possibility of night golf, to name but a few.
And now, it has been revealed that players will arrive on the tee at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship from January 19-22 with walk-on music, as seen most commonly in darts.

The news was revealed at the HSBC Golf Business Forum in Florida by Giles Morgan, HSBC’s Global Head of Sponsorship and Events, who said there will also be music on the range at the European Tour event - which Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Henrik Stenson and Danny Willett will all be competing in.
Journalist Adam Schupak, who was in attendance at the Forum, tweeted:

Asked whether he thought it was a good idea, guest Jack Nicklaus said: “The world is changing and we need to change with the world.
“Just look at the Phoenix Open. What they have done there with the par-3 16th hole has certainly proved very popular.
"If there is music on the range or on the first tee, the players will get used to it" - Jack Nicklaus
“I am a traditionalist, and I like to see golf be golf, but adding to things is good. If there is music on the range or on the first tee, the players will get used to it.
“I never liked the silence. You might just tell the players to get out there and play.”
