• Ewen Ferguson one of 21 Scots at Q-School Second Stage
• The 20-year-old has played down importance of securing card
• Walker Cup team-mates Forrest and McDonald also in action

EWEN FERGUSON | EUROPEAN TOUR Q-SCHOOL

Ewen Ferguson heads a group of 21 Scottish golfers looking to continue their quest for a European Tour card tomorrow when the Second Stage of Q-School gets underway in Spain.

The 20-year-old, who turned professional in late August, is joined by his fellow Walker Cup winners Grant Forrest and Jack McDonald, while 2014 Amateur champion Bradley Neil is also teeing it up.

“I’m obviously aiming for the highest” – Ewen Ferguson

Speaking to bunkered.co.uk last month, Ewen Ferguson played down the importance of securing his European Tour card at the first attempt, despite an impressive performance in the First Stage of Q-School in September – where he finished seventh out of the 22 qualifiers at The Roxburghe.

“The good thing about me is that I’m going to get eight starts on the Challenge Tour next year no matter what,” said Ewen Ferguson. “So that takes a bit of heat away. I’m just going to try and play Q-School and get a full card on the European Tour and if you play with that mindset you might end up with a full Challenge Tour card.

“I’m obviously aiming for the highest. After speaking to a lot of people, if you just try and win it, all of a sudden tenth place is a bit like, ‘I wanted to win that but came tenth’. That’s a good way to do it.”

Ferguson and McDonald are both in action at Campo de Golf El Saler, while Forrest (above, right) and Neil (below) are teeing it up at Las Colinas.
