A former LIV Golf caddie has raised eyebrows with a “hands down” claim that one event on the Saudi-backed circuit is the “best tournament in the world”.

Kenny Harms, who worked with Kevin Na until the pair parted ways in August, told Garrett Johnston that it even compares to major championships and the Ryder Cup.

That is despite Harms – who won five times on the PGA Tour with Na – never caddying in the biennial contest between Europe and the USA.

The event in question, you ask…

LIV Golf Adelaide.

It was staged by the Grange Golf Club for the third time last weekend, with Joaquin Niemann lifting the title and the $4 million first-place prize.

Over 100,000 fans poured through the gates to watch the second event of the new season, where the famous Watering Hole stole the headlines.

And that’s why Harms is convinced it’s the number one event in golf.

“It’s hands down the best tournament in the world,” he said. “Crowds are there to watch golf unlike the Waste Management [Phoenix Open – PGA Tour event].

“It has the same crowds as the majors and the Ryder Cup, yet it’s not a major or the Ryder Cup. Yes, it has a party hole, but the crowds are lined up on every hole.”

Meanwhile, LIV bosses must share some of that belief after announcing an extension to LIV Golf Adelaide through 2031.

South Australia Premier Peter Malinauskas, LIV CEO Scott O’Neil, and LIV Golf Board Member Greg Norman delivered the news to fans during Sunday’s final round.

“This event is the embodiment of what LIV Golf represents: the biggest stars, the best courses, unmatched experiences, and of course, the best fans in the world,” said O’Neil.

“Thank you to Premier Peter Malinauskas for his leadership and commitment to LIV Golf for the long term.

“LIV Golf Adelaide is our showcase and brings the vision for all our events across the globe to life.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to honour what this community has helped us build over the last three years through a partnership that will take it to even greater heights for years to come.”

The tournament is also set to be relocated to the Greg Norman-designed North Adelaide Golf Course, which has been given the green light for redevelopment.

“I’ve dreamed of building a global golf league for 30 years,” said Norman. “LIV Golf Adelaide is the realisation of what LIV Golf can be around the world.

“What LIV Golf has built has never been done before, changing the sport for the better while having a lasting impact on communities like Adelaide.

“I’m honoured to design a world-class course that will benefit current and future generations here in Australia. Long LIV Golf!”
