British Ladies champ questions Curtis Cup omission on bunkered.co.uk

Question: Lauren Taylor has said that, contrary to the LGU’s decision, she would be fit to play in the Curtis Cup

Lauren Taylor has taken to bunkered.co.uk to question the LGU’s selectors’ decision to omit her from the Curtis Cup due to injury.

Speaking exclusively to bunkered.co.uk yesterday, GB&I captain Tegwen Matthews had said the selection panel reluctantly chose to leave Taylor out of the side for the match against the US at Nairn in June. Matthews told bunkered.co.uk: “It’s a nasty injury where she’s unable to make a complete follow-through without wincing with pain. She’s not been able to compete or to hit shots beyond 60 yards.”

But writing in the comments section beneath our article, British Ladies champion Taylor disputed that decision.

Taylor wrote: “Contrary to the LGU statement and Curtis Cup Captain Tegwin’s comments in Bunkered; I am fit and looking forward to a full competitive season which starts next week. I tested my fitness last night when I played a full round on the Dukes at Woburn. I was hitting full shots pain free.

This is the latest in a line of poorly handled incidents regarding the selection of the GB&I Curtis Cup team, following the decision to drop and then recall Charley Hull.

Taylor added: “The LGU were given a report that confirmed I could pick up my training intensity this week and would be back to all golf activities within the week.

“I can also confirm that I will be playing competitively before the end of June. I will be playing in France next week, followed by the LET Access tournament also in France. Next I am looking forward to the English Ladies Closed. In June I will be taking up LET invites to play in the Dutch Ladies Open and the Slovakian Open. I am also considering invites for tournaments in the US.

“I wish the GB&I Team every success in the Curtis Cup but wanted to put the record straight. I am fit, well and looking forward to a competitive season.”
