Matthieu Pavon will defend his title at the Farmers Insurance Open this week after making history for his country last year.
He became the first Frenchman to win on the PGA Tour since Arnaud Massey won the Open Championship in 1907.
But the field for the Farmers Insurance Open, held at Torrey Pines – one of the Tour’s toughest venues – is thinning.
Despite teeing it up on both the North and South Courses, the latter used twice to host the US Open, several big names have withdrawn.
Those include Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele under medical reasons, while Collin Morikawa and Akshay Bhatia have also pulled out.
The event has long produced world-class winners and while it’s not a Signature Event, there are still a few big names looking to add their name to the honours list.
Hideki Matsuyama and Ludvig Åberg highlight the hopes of players inside the world’s top ten.

Here’s how the bookies have ranked the field…
Ludvig Aberg 9/1
Hideki Matsuyama 12/1
Sungjae Im 18/1
Will Zalatoris 22/1
Jason Day 25/1

The bunkered Bet
Ludvig Aberg 9/1
The Swede was ninth here last year before finishing second at Pebble Beach and after overcoming a knee injury, will be keen to kickstart his season. And Aberg’s strengths off the tee and into the tight greens at Torrey will help his cause.
