It was a dramatic start to the 2024 PGA Tour play-offs.
At the top of the board, Hideki Matsuyama was seemingly cruising towards the $3.6 million top prize – days after being robbed in London – before a collapse.
The Japanese star was as many as five shots clear before finding himself a shot behind Viktor Hovland.
But the Japanese star rallied, carding birdie on the final two holes to win by two from Hovland and two-time major champion Xander Schauffele.
Scottie Scheffler, as always, was right in the mix, whilst Nick Dunlap – who could’ve been defending his US Amateur win of 2023, was also in the hunt.
The result pushed Dunlap into the top 50, sealing his spot in next week’s BMW Championship, too.
However, as players moved up, a handful of pros had their season cut short. Tom Kim and Mackenzie Hughes were among the unlucky losers.
