The president of the Quail Hollow Club – host venue for this week’s PGA Championship – has blasted Hunter Mahan over remarks made by the former Ryder Cup star comparing the course to the Kardashian family.

Speaking to Axios, Johnny Harris took the six-time PGA Tour winner to task over remarks he made to The Athletic earlier in the week.

Mahan, 42, was quoted as saying: “I guess I would say Quail Hollow is like a Kardashian. It’s very modern, beautiful and well-kept. But it lacks a soul or character.”Harris, as one might expect, took a dim view of that appraisal.

“Tell me who that is,” he asked an Axios reporter. “I don’t know the last time he was here.”

Well, we do.

Mahan hasn’t played at Quail Hollow since 2021 and missed the cut the last time the PGA Championship took place there in 2017.

Following up, Harris extended an invitation to the now-retired tour pro “He might have to play with me,” Harris continued. “But that’s okay. He’ll play with a member.”

Mahan’s opinion is 180 degrees removed from veteran commentator Jim Nantz’ view of Quail Hollow.

Speaking to the 5 Clubs podcast ahead of the championship, the CBS play-caller said: “First off, it truly takes on a look of Augusta in spring time. I know for anybody to be compared to that’s not really fair, but it’s the closest thing I’ve seen with just the look of it, the drive up to the clubhouse, the conditions of the golf course, the white sand, it’s lush.

“The place is just perfection.

“Then you’ve got on top of it, the annual tournament which has produced not only quality champions, but riveting tournaments, especially when you consider that closing stretch of holes. I love this course. I could go hole by hole what I like about it.”
