A golf club in Surrey, England, is up for sale and potential buyers have been challenged with either renovating it or transforming it into something new.
Merrist Wood Golf Club, in the stunning Guildford countryside, is home to an 18-hole golf course that was designed by the respected golf architect David Williams.
As well as the 6,909-yard layout, the club boasts practice facilities and a purpose-built 8,177 square feet clubhouse, set in just over 210 acres of green land.

And all of that could be yours for £2.25 million.
Kay Griffiths, a director in leisure and trade related team at Savills, said: “Merrist Wood Golf Course is a substantial landholding in a prime Surrey location with potential to be re-launched as a mature 18-hole golf course or alternatively put to a variety of alternative uses, subject to obtaining the required planning permission.
“We anticipate substantial interest from a diverse range of potential buyers as opportunities of this nature rarely arise in such an attractive location.”
A par-72 championship course, Merrist Wood benefits from a gentle south facing slope, has four lakes and is bolstered by numerous areas of mature woodlands and hedgerows.
In the 1990s, it was voted by Golf World as one of the UK’s top ten new courses.

But in recent times, the owners have been seeking planning permission to recontour the site and upgrade the golf course to a better design created in conjunction with Sam Torrance.
As a result, it’s been maintained as a nine-hole course since the autumn of 2023, while the remaining nine holes are closed but maintained as a golf landscape.
The listing also states that the clubhouse needs some work. But kicking back in it after a round on your own course would be nice, right?
Currently, the nine hole course costs golfers just £10 to play, with the par-5 sixth hole the signature test – tempting big hitters off the tee at 549 yards.
