Knightswood Golf Course in Glasgow was sealed off by police yesterday amid what is being described as an “ongoing search operation”.

The Daily Record and Scottish Sun are reporting that officers were seen digging up parts of the course as part of the investigation, with a forensics tent also pitched at the scene.

A local resident told the Scottish Sun how it “looks like something sinister has happened”.

“We saw them get out and start digging,” said the source. “They put a tent up and have been standing guard around it all day.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said that officers were “conducting a search of the area as part of an ongoing enquiry” but would not be drawn any further.

Its future has been in some doubt over the last nine months following a public consultation into all six courses run by the council.

One of those courses, nearby Ruchill, has already closed with fears that Knighstwood and the four others could soon follow.
