GARETH BALE | CELTIC MANOR RESORT

Gareth Bale, the world’s most expensive footballer, has become the latest name to be added to the line-up for the Celebrity Cup at Celtic Manor.

Fresh from his international exploits of netting the only goal in Wales’ 1-0 win over Belgium – bringing their qualification for Euro 2016 ever closer – the 25-year-old will be swapping the football for a golf ball early next month as he searches for more glory for his country.

The keen golfer, who is an honorary member at the 2010 Ryder Cup venue, was pictured recently on his Instagram page playing against Everton defender Phil Jagielka in Marbella and hopes he can help the Wales team – captained by comedian Rob Brydon – to victory over England, Scotland and Ireland.

“I’m looking forward to pulling on a Wales shirt of a different kind” – Gareth Bale

“When I’m back home in Wales, I really enjoy playing at Celtic Manor,” said the Real Madrid star, who can also count on Sir Gareth Edwards as a team-mate. “I’m looking forward to pulling on a Wales shirt of a different kind in July and competing in the Celebrity Cup for the first time.

“Hopefully we can win it back from England! We have got a strong squad, led by Rob and I’m looking forward to meeting up with the team and getting out on the course.”

Footballing personalities the £85million man will be up against include Scotland manager Gordon Strachan and ex-players Kenny Dalglish and Alan Hansen.

Other stars making an appearance at the event, which is being held from July 4-5, include TV presenters Vernon Kay, Ben Shephard, Gethin Jones and Zoe Hardman and Irish singers Keith Duffy, Ronan Keating and Brian McFadden.

The last few celebrity names are still to be added to the team sheets for the tournament, where the four nations will compete in teams of six. It promises to be a full family day out with an interactive retail village and the opportunity to get up close to watch the stars in action.
