This July golf’s legends will once again compete for the Senior Open presented by Rolex.
The star-studded event will see such names as Padraig Harrington, Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Scotland’s own Colin Montgomerie take to the fairways at Carnoustie from July 25 to 28. Defending champion Alex Cejka will be there and, of course, Bernhard Langer, the most successful player in senior tour history and the record holder for the Senior Open with four wins.
Another welcome move comes from Glen Moray, who will be the official whisky for the prestigious golf event, offering up first-class hospitality and liquid refreshment.
This will be the distillery’s first Senior Open in a six-figure, three-year deal. An expected crowd of 35,000 spectators can look forward to visiting Glen Moray’s whisky bar in the Championship Village for a taste of the distillery’s famously smooth and fruity single malt drams.
Golf and whisky: a perfect match

Iain Allan, Global Brand Ambassador at Glen Moray, said the distillery was keen to get involved with the event because of the close ties between golf and whisky – Scotland’s two most famous exports.
He added: “It just seems like a natural connection – whisky and golf go hand in hand. I know from spending time at the distillery and seeing the kind of guests that we get flowing through here there’s a lot of golfers that are up in Speyside and wanting to tie into that whisky and golf connection. So, it’s just an extension for us to get involved in that.”
Jamie Stewart, UK Commercial Director of Glen Moray parent company LMB-UK, added: “Golf and whisky have so much in common, from our reputation as Scottish icons around the world to our shared ability to gather friends together to enjoy good times. As the Championship’s official whisky, we are very much looking forward to celebrating these shared values, and to introducing our single malt whiskies and the story of Glen Moray to golf fans.”
Championship Director Edward Kitson added: “The Senior Open presented by Rolex is where legends of the game test their skills on some of the finest courses in the UK. It’s only fitting that a legendary Scottish whisky will also be there.”
What can you expect?

Visitors to the whisky bar will get a true taste of Glen Moray’s delicious range of malts. You’ll be able to enjoy the distillery’s much loved Glen Moray classic, alongside a dram of 12 Year Old and Phoenix Rising – recently named the World’s Best Single Malt Scotch Whisky. There will also be three whiskies from the exclusive Warehouse 1 collection – Amarone finish, Amontillado finish and Oloroso matured – which Iain intriguingly describes as a ‘little bit more experimental’.
On top of that, a specially commissioned cocktail will be available for those who fancy something a little different.
Iain continued: “We’ll be pouring whisky and I’ll be on hand to have a chat to people and talk through what we’re up to and some of our classic drams as well as some of the newer more unusual additions to our range. Glen Moray is known for flavour and there’s a lot to explore. Maybe we’ll be offering people shelter from the rain, but hopefully not. Hopefully they’re coming in out of the sunshine for a wee dram or two.”
Glen Moray’s lasting commitment to golf
Glen Moray has also been confirmed as the official whisky of the Tartan Pro Tour: the Scottish-based development tour for male and female golfers, founded by golf icon and 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie.
Teeing off in May 2024 and touring 13 Scottish golf courses during the year, Glen Moray will be on hand with the drams at each – as well as being title sponsor of the brand’s “home leg” event at the Nairn Dunbar Golf Course near the distillery.
The tie-in is testament to Glen Moray’s commitment to sport in general across Scotland and golf in particular.
Iain added: “We’ve had sponsorship in the past with Edinburgh Rugby, so, it’s about taking that brand awareness and moving it onto something which we think is a nice fit.”
Paul Lawrie said: “It’s great to have the support of Glen Moray as an event sponsor. We look forward to the Tour’s first visit to Nairn Dunbar Golf Club on the Moray Firth, close to the Glen Moray Distillery. The Tartan Pro Tour is becoming ever more popular for players aspiring to the highest levels of professional golf and having a global brand like Glen Moray backing the sport – through both the Tartan Pro Tour and the Senior Open – is great news.”
