A quick scan on Twitter last night and into this morning leaves you in no doubt: Henrik Stenson would be a hugely popular winner among his peers.
Teeing off with Phil Mickelson at 2.35pm, the Swede is pursuing his maiden major title after four third-placed finishes and a runner-up finish to the American at Muirfield three years ago.
His near misses have banded him in that unwanted category alongside the likes of Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia and Colin Montgomerie as one of the ‘best players never to have won a major’ – and it’s clear a lot of his fellow tour pros would like to see that change by this evening.
COME ON!! @henrikstenson gonna be a great day of golf tomorrow for ppl! I should be done and dusted and home with my feet up ready to watch!
