Eugenio Chacarra, a former LIV golfer who criticised the league after leaving last year, has taken his first step towards his next goal: the PGA Tour.
At the end of the 2024 season, Fireballs GC chose not to renew Chacarra’s contract, instead opting to sign a new player.
But the Spaniard has shown there is life after LIV, winning the Hero Indian Open on Sunday – his first title on the DP World Tour.
The victory was well worthy of the top prize, just over €350,000, as he led the field home by two at a ridiculously difficult DLF Golf & Country Club in India.
In fact, Chacarra posted one of only three under under-par scores for the tournament.
Keita Nakajima, the defending champion, took second place and the honours for possibly the best nine holes of golf all year.
The Japanese ace banked around €229,000 for his week’s work, which included a scintillating 29 on the front nine on Saturday. It was 8.83 shots better than the field average!
