Hideki Matsuyama and his team were robbed in London on Monday – but the Japanese superstar has already put the shock incident behind him.
The 2021 Masters champion was the victim of theft at a restaurant during a one-night stopover in the capital after winning an Olympic bronze medal at Le Golf National in Paris.
Matsuyama told Golf Digest Japan his wallet was stolen, while the passports and visas of his caddie, Shota Hayato, and his coach, Mikihito Kuromiya, were also taken.
Fortunately for Matsuyama, he had left his passport back in his hotel room.

And while his team have now returned to Japan, Matsuyama showed he was not flustered at all by the events after posting an opening round 65 at the FedEx Cup St Jude Championship on Thursday.
“I’ve forgotten it completely. It’s not even an issue now,” Matsuyama said through an interpreter at TPC Southwind. “It was an unfortunate situation.
“Luckily, I only lost my wallet, but Shota, my caddie, and the coach, lost their passports, and we’re trying hard now to get their visas back in line, and hopefully they can join us as a team as soon as possible.”

Matsuyama, who sits 8th in the FedEx Cup standings, hopes the duo can return in time for the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake, with replacement caddie Taiga Tabuchi filling in for Hayato this week.
“We didn’t even know it happened,” he said when asked for further details. “We were just having a friendly dinner, and Shota was the first one – ‘Hey, where is my bag?’
“Of course it was frustrating, but we really didn’t know it happened. It was just kind of all of a sudden. Yeah, he just took it and ran.”
