When 18-year-old Lewis Ham-Howes witnessed his dad, Carl, notch his first hole-in-one on a family holiday in Scotland, he can’t have imagined the sequence of events it would trigger.

The father and son duo, who are members of La Moye in Jersey, were in the Home of Golf to watch The Open at Royal Troon. Having spent the day witnessing the world’s best strut their stuff round the Ayrshire links, they returned to their Cameron House residence and went to have a little knock around Loch Lomond’s nine-holer, the Wee Demon.

At the 7th, a long par-3, Carl hit a 6-iron that bounced twice on the green before disappearing into the cup. It was the 49-year-old’s first ace in more than 35 years of playing the sport.

Not to be outdone, just three weeks later, Lewis’s stepfather, Paul Soares, followed suit.

Playing in a club competition at St Clements, also in Jersey, 12-handicap Paul needed just one shot to play the par-3 5th.

On hearing the news, Lewis sent a message to Carl that simply read: “That’s you and Paul both with holes-in-one. Me next….!”

You already know where this story is going, don’t you?

The teenager, who plays off 17, was taking part in the Jersey Golf Junior Festival the following week at St Clements when he reached the 275-yard par-4 4th.

He caught his 3-wood flush and, having landed just shy of the short grass, his ball rolled up and gently fell into the hole.

What a way to make your first hole-in-one AND albatross.

By the way, the odds of making a hole-in-one are around 12,000-1 for amateur golfers, which leaps to around 6,000,000-1 for an alby. We’ll let you do the maths…
