Scottie Scheffler did not tear up on top of the Olympic podium because of a $37,500 cheque.

The world No.1 – usually so composed even in victory – was overcome with emotion after his remarkable final round 62 to win gold at Le Golf National last Sunday.

A uniform pay structure for Team USA Olympic and Paralympic athletes means that gold medal winners earn $37,500 – not that would have even registered with the Texan who has banked $28million in PGA Tour prize money alone this season.

No price can be put on the golden moment Scheffler enjoyed in Paris, with his wife Meredith and newborn son Bennett watching – it was another triumph that will define his burgeoning career.

Which takes us to the Comcast Business Top Ten, a competition which “celebrates the top performers at the end of the FedExCup Regular Season.”

The PGA Tour’s partnership with Comcast, which began in 2021, sees a huge bonus pool distributed to the top-ten finishers in the regular season before the lucrative FedEx Cup playoffs have even begun. Last year, the pool was increased from $20m to $40m.

And it means that Scheffler – without even hitting a single shot – will earn an extra $8m as the top finisher on the Comcast Business standings.

This week’s Wyndham Championship is the final event on the regular season calendar and Scheffler is comfortably clear at the top of the standings ahead of Xander Schauffele. Neither two-time major champion is teeing it up in North Carolina.

Scheffler has earned up to $20m for his six wins in PGA Tour tournaments this season, but now takes home another mammoth cheque ahead of next week’s playoffs starting at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis.

And he’s not the only player in line for a handsome payday. Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark,  Ludvig Aberg, Sahith Theegala, Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im and Shane Lowry all make up the Comcast Business Top Ten heading into the final event. Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre outside the bonus pool in 17th.

There is, of course, even more prize money on the line when the playoffs start, with two $20m purse events remaining, while the Tour Championship winner at East Lake in Atlanta will bank a winner’s bonus of $25million.
