13th
Southerness
Par 4, 467 yards
We say: Arguably the pick of the courses in Dumfries & Galloway, the magnificent Southerness poses its most formidable challenge at the long 13th. Will it be unlucky for you?
14th
Trump International Golf Links
Par 4, 445 yards
We say: It only opened in 2012 but, already, this North-East course has established itself as one of Scotland’s finest. The view from the tee is something to behold, looking down upon what seems like a sliver of fairway, framed on either side by immense dunes.
15th
North Berwick
Par 3, 189 yards
We say: The most copied hole in the game, ‘The Redan’ is a marvellous par-3 where club selection is everything. The green slopes sharply from right to left. Miss it and you can almost guarantee kissing a shot goodbye.
16th
Murcar Links
Par 3, 160 yards
We say: An archetypal links hole on an archetypal links course, the short 16th at Murcar is a legitimate gem. Watch out for the two pot bunkers – one at either side of the green – both of which have the potential to be true card-wreckers.
17th
Prestwick
Par 4, 394 yards
We say: The original second hole and the oldest existing hole in championship golf, the 17th at Prestwick dates back to 1851. To play it is to play a little piece of golfing history. Just watch out for the cavernous ‘Sahara’ bunker short of the green. It’ll ruin your round.
18th
St Andrews (Old)
Par 4, 357 yards
We say: The ultimate way to end the ultimate round. Hit back towards some of the game’s most famous landmarks, pose for photos on the Swilcan Bridge, stay out of the ‘Valley of Sin’ and celebrate like Seve when you hole out. It’s an unforgettable finish.
