Over the last three years, it seems as though LIV Golf has offered every high-profile golfer a big money deal to join its fledgling league.

Jason Day begs to differ.

The former world No.1 and major champion was heavily fancied to join the Saudi-funded circuit when it first emerged in 2022.

However, in an interview with a media outlet back home in his native Australia, the 36-year-old set the record straight.

“I didn’t knock [an offer] back,” Day told Code Sports Australia. “What happened was, it was a business move to just go in and explore the potential of what would happen.

“I said [to my agent], ‘No worries, I’m happy with where I’m at, but it’s always nice to know.’ And they [LIV Golf] said, ‘We love Jason, but he’s too injured; he just gets too many injuries.’

“I don’t blame them.”

Since he won his sole major at the US PGA Championship in 2015, Day has battled a successfion of ailments, ranging from chronic lower back issues to vertigo.

He admitted to considering early retirement before rebuilding his swing under Chris Como and ending a five-year winless drought on the PGA Tour at the Byron Nelson in 2023.

“I’m so thankful and so happy that I stayed on the PGA Tour,” he added. “I just feel that the tour was a perfect spot for me.”

Nonetheless, he is optimistic that a long-mooted peace deal between golf’s warring factions can be struck – and soon.

“I’m hoping we join back together because there’s definitely a lot of players on the LIV tour that we miss on the PGA Tour,” Day said. ” I’ve always played very central with LIV and just never really got in the politics of it all.”
