JASON DAY

Jason Day has revealed that he thinks golf is a ‘nerdy’ sport – but praised Arnold Palmer for making the game ‘sexy’.

The 28-year-old made the comments ahead of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he hailed ‘The King’s’ impact on the game and how he paved the way for the future generations of golfers.

“Let’s be honest, it’s kind of a nerdy sport, it really is,” said Jason Day. “It’s not like you’re out there beating each other up on the football field or something – walking around, chasing a little white golf ball.”

“Unfortunately that’s just how it is and don’t get me wrong, we all enjoy. Arnold Palmer made golf sexy.”

Day, the current world No.3, also revealed his concern for No.1 Jordan Spieth, who he thinks may be playing too much to fufill sponsors’ wishes and as a result, may burnout.

“I’m just worried,” he said. “I’m worried about him because I don’t know if he’s playing too much and he’s doing too many things with golf and sponsor obligations. He may get burned out and go through a rut where he doesn’t want to be on the golf course for a while.

“Everyone goes through that. I’m just kind of right now, I’ve told a few people on my team I’m kind of worried about him because of what he’s kind of putting himself under.

“He’s played a lot of golf, especially the last few years. You can look at his world ranking and how many events he’s played over the last couple years and you can see that he’s kind of wearing himself out.”
