Justin Rose has emerged as a late doubt just five days before the start of the PGA Championship.
The Englishman has withdrawn just before his third round in this week’s Truist Championship, a $20million signature event on the PGA Tour.
Rose shot a second round 77 battling illness and was last on the 72-player leaderboard before his enforced withdrawal at Philadelphia Cricket Club.
“After becoming progressively ill over the past few days, I have made the unfortunate decision to withdraw from the @TruistChamp,” he wrote on X.
“I am not in a state to complete, and it’s best for me to focus on a quick recovery prior to next week.”

Rose now has an extremely short turnaround to recover before the second major of the season next week at Quail Hollow.
“Thanks to all the fans in Philly for the love this week,” he added. “It’s a special place to me and I’m sorry it wasn’t a better week!
Rose has finished second in each of the last two majors, agonisingly losing out in a playoff to career grand slam winner Rory McIlroy at last month’s Masters.

The 44-year-old is not the only major champion who could be a doubt for Quail Hollow.
Jason Day, the US PGA champion in 2015, withdrew from the Truist Championship before the event started on Thursday.
The former world No.1 is being troubled by a neck injury.
