JUSTIN THOMAS
Until Phil Mickelson’s back nine rampage on Thursday, young American Justin Thomas briefly held the clubhouse lead at Royal Troon on four-under-par.
But, in his Open Championship debut, the 23-year-old fell down the leaderboard with rounds of 77 and 74. In his three rounds so far, he’s played the back nine in five-over-par – not a bad effort at all considering some of the big numbers being made out there.
And it was a stat about the back nine at Royal Troon over the past two Opens it has staged which the American couldn’t quite believe - and neither could we...
Incredible stat on Golf Channel via @JustinRayGC. In the last two Opens, here’s how the nines at Troon played.
Front: -28
Back: +2,131

Quite possibly the most insane stat I've ever read. Wow https://t.co/8dVpa8QNPj
