For the first time 2015, the United States will go in to the Presidents Cup later this month without Justin Thomas.
A veteran of the last three renewals of the biennial dust-up, Thomas failed to qualify for the US side and was then overlooked for one of captain Jim Furyk’s six captain’s picks – a disappointing end to a disappointing season for the two-time major champion and former world No.1.
Despite Thomas’ impressive record in team matchplay events, Furyk instead went with Russell Henley, Max Homa and Keegan Bradley, as well as Brian Harman, Sam Burns and Tony Finau.
In a lengthy social media post, Thomas reacted to being overlooked – and revealed that he has something far more exciting happening later in the year.

“I’m obviously very bummed to not be joining the boys in Canada for the Presidents Cup, but completely understand,” wrote Thomas.
“Jim has put together a great team. I will be the first one pulling for them and watching, while using it as motivation to not miss a team event again as they are some of my favourite weeks I’ve had.
“It will be nice to have some time to work on things, [a] foundation event, some R&R, and even become a dad at the end of November!”

This will be a first child for Thomas and his wife Jillian, who married in 2022.
He added: “While I’m excited for the off season, I’m already looking forward to practicing and getting ready for Maui.
“Thanks to everybody for countless support and kind words as I always appreciate it. That’s enough of me getting in my feels for today.”
The 2024 Presidents Cup takes place at The Royal Montreal Golf Club from September 26-29.
The US travels to Canada looking to win the trophy for a tenth consecutive time.
