Tributes have poured in for legendary iron designer and craftsman Katsuhiro Miura, the founder of Miura Golf, who has died.
The news was announced on the iron manufacturer’s social media.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Katsuhiro Miura (1942-2025), founder of Miura Golf,” the posts read.
“Beyond being a legendary craftsman, he was a devoted family man whose kindness and humility was felt by everyone who knew him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, his colleagues and the many lives he inspired.”
Miura founded the brand in 1977, with 20 years of club building already under his belt.

At the outset of the brand, Miura wanted to create irons that focused on precision and attention to detail, a quality which still stands out today.
Thanks to the quality of clubs that Miura produced, word quickly spread around the golf world, with the brand producing clubs for equipment companies around the world.

An important point came in the 1990s, when Miura realised that his current forging process couldn’t properly manipulate the grain structure of the club, and was flawed.
Therefore, he suggested creating a proprietary machine for the forging process to achieve the perfect iron club head.
Thanks to this process, Miura irons produce incredible feel, something for which they are still famed for.

In 2010, Miura became chairman of the company and his son, Shinei, was named president. Although Katsuhiro was chairman, he was still involved in all aspects of the business, including the club making process, where he would sit at the top of the production line of the factory.
Today, Miura irons are still popular amongst the best golfers in the world. Justin Rose, runner-up at this year’s Masters, uses a set of Miura MC-502 irons. Meanwhile, Adam Scott also uses a custom set from the manufacturer, with his AS-1 irons in play.
