Callaway’s Kings of Distance has given 40-year-old Iain Young just the confidence-booster he needed to get out on the course more often.

Young, who hails from Glasgow, has only been playing golf for two years with his progress hampered by the fact that he suffers from dyspraxia – a condition affecting hand-eye coordination that is three times more common in men than it is women.

Compounded with that, he was also recently diagnosed with non-epileptic attack disorder (NEAD) – epilepsy without the fits – which can strike him down at any time.

“Because of my dyspraxia, one thing that I find very difficult when I’m playing golf is keeping my head down,” he explained.

“When I’m playing golf with my best mate, I keep my head down and he has to watch where it goes because I’m more inclined to lift my head before I hit it and end up messing it up.”

But, after attending Kings of Distance, Young left with a new spring in his step after gaining so much confidence.

“I didn’t really know much about what the event was going to be about at the start of the day to be honest,” he told bunkered.co.uk. “But it’s completely opened my eyes to what’s out there in terms of equipment, lessons and everything like that.

“The couple of minutes I had with Denis [Pugh] were very useful and I saw an instant improvement in the shots I hit afterwards, while I also got a couple of tips from the Callaway guys about my grip. I was obviously gripping it too tight so they told me to loosen it.

“For me, today was about finding out for me where I need help the most so it’s been a really good experience.

“Getting tips from the likes of Marc [Warren] and Nicolas [Colsaerts] was invaluable and it has really boosted my confidence and motivated me to get out on the course more often.”
