Despite Greg Norman’s support, the septuple of LIV Golf stars failed to bring home a medal for their nation in a triumphant week for Olympic golf at Le Paris National.

LIV commissioner Norman joined thousands of fans on the ground for the showpiece at the home of the 2018 Ryder Cup as a partisan Parisian crowd saw an inspired Scottie Scheffler claim gold for the United States.

Tommy Fleetwood took an agonising silver and Hideki Matsuyama won bronze, with Jon Rahm the closest medal hope from the Saudi-backed breakaway league.

Here’s how all seven LIV Golf players performed at the Olympic Games

Jon Rahm – T5, -15

It seemed inconceivable when a fired up Jon Rahm walked to the 10th tee with a four stroke lead that he wouldn’t win gold. The Spaniard somehow left without even a medal. He came home in 39 shots – including a double bogey seven on the par-5 14th – to fall four shots behind Scheffler’s winning total.

“I not only feel like I let myself down but to just not get it done for the whole country of Spain, it’s a lot more painful than I would like it to be,” the crestfallen two-time major champ said afterwards.

Joaquin Niemann – T9, -12

Niemann began the week by expressing his frustration that more LIV players weren’t in the field due to the Olympic qualifying system. The Chilean played solid if not spectacular golf but never threatened the podium in Paris.

Carlos Ortiz – T26, -5

The Mexican was another LIV player to lament the field in the build-up. “You want to have the best golfers right here, but politics somehow manage things still,” he stressed, with Bryson DeChambeau and Cam Smith among those who failed to qualify.

Abraham Ancer – T35, -2

Ortiz’s Mexican teammate Ancer has a victory on the LIV circuit this year in Hong Kong, but has been unable to contend since that win in March.

David Puig – T40, -1

The Spaniard worked so hard to get into the Olympics and partner Rahm, but couldn’t make it count.

Mito Pereira – T45, +1

Niemann’s Chilean partner Pereira finished with a five-under 66 to end a frustrating week on a high

Adrian Meronk – T49, +3

The Pole’s miserable results in the big events continued as he failed to break 70 in Paris.
