Despite calls to expect the imminent end of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league, one of the teams has signed a global sponsorship deal.

Ian Poulter’s team, Majesticks GC, has secured sponsorship from the second-largest crypto exchange company in the world.

The leading Web3 technology company, OKX, has become a ‘trusted name’ in worldwide sports and admits to sharing a common drive with LIV in the pursuit to ‘disrupt’ sectors.

Majesticks GC, co-captained by Ryder Cup veteran Poulter, has Lee Westwood, Henrik Stenson, Sam Horsfield, and Laurie Canter on its roster.

The European-packed team currently sits 11th of 12 in the team standings, having failed to break inside the top five in any events this season.

Players will sport the OKX logo on the team kits, while the partnership will aim to offer ‘engagement opportunities and fan experiences’ to spectators at LIV Golf events.

Poulter said: “We both have ambitions not only to win, but to challenge the status quo.

“The partnership will result in some amazing experiences for fans to go behind-the-scenes with us as we pursue our mission to make a difference both on and off the course.”

Haider Rafique, OKX’s Chief Marketing Officer, is adamant the partnership can drastically increase LIV Golf’s reach, should fan engagement and inclusivity be given greater thought.

He said: “This is what we’re shooting for with Majesticks GC, a top-tier team in the LIV Golf League that exemplifies our values and ambitions.”

The trading platform is already invested in the elite sports market, demonstrated by existing partnerships with Manchester City FC and the McLaren Formula 1 team.

The deal is through the 2024 LIV season, and reports have suggested that the controversial breakaway tour will continue as usual throughout that period.

Uncertainty still surrounds the future of Greg Norman’s tour, though, while the 48-man, 12-team structure has come under question in recent months.

LIV Golf returns to action in Spain next week at Real Club Valderrama from June 30 to July 2.
