It was a serious struggle for the LIV Golf players at this year’s Open.

From the 16 players signed to the Saudi-backed league, nine managed to make the cut.

But, despite a flicker of hope for Jon Rahm on Sunday, nobody from Greg Norman’s breakaway remotely managed make a challenge for the Claret Jug.

Here’s how every LIV golfer fared at the 152nd Open at Royal Troon…

The Open – LIV Golf scores

Jon Rahm, -1

The Spaniard looked destined to make a charge after birdieing his first three holes in the final round. While he couldn’t maintain that momentum on a tough back-nine, this was Rahm’s best major performance of the season.

Dean Burmester, + 3

The South African looked right in the mix at the start of this tournament, but faded way over the final three days.

Dustin Johnson, +6

It’s fair to say DJ is glad to see the back of Troon. The two-time major champion rushed out of the place after playing his back-nine in 41 shots on Sunday, signing for a four-over 75.

Brooks Koepka, +8

Koepka defines his career by his performances in the ‘Big Four’ so a majorless season is a poor one by his standards.

Adrian Meronk +9

The towering Pole is yet to have a meaningful major championship – this was just his third time he’s been here on the weekend in 10 starts.

Joaquin Niemann, +10

The Chilean has made it his mission to get into the majors without ranking points and has played in three of the four this season, but he struggled to master the Troon links.

Abraham Ancer +10

He has a win on the LIV tour this year, but the diminutive Mexican is yet to make an impact in the game’s defining tournaments.

Phil Mickelson, +11

Mickelson couldn’t conjure up the magic of 2016, but this was still a productive week for the jogger-wearing 54-year-old at Troon. He battled to make the cut, and had great fun in his final round with fellow lefty Robert MacIntyre.

Andy Ogletree +19

Every credit to Ogletree for making the cut, but perhaps he wishes he hadn’t.

MISSED CUT

Henrik Stenson, +8

Troon will always hold a special place in Stenson’s heart after his heroics eight years ago, but this was a miserable return for the Swede.

Louis Oosthuizen, +8

Oosthuizen will keep coming back to this great championship for as long as he likes (until the age of 60), but he knows his best golf is now behind him.

Tyrrell Hatton, +8

Hatton didn’t have much fun at all this week. He claimed Troon had been made too long and wasn’t enjoyable to play on after a 74 on Thursday. His mood can’t have improved after his Friday 78.

Sam Horsfield, +8

One of two LIV players to emerge from Final Qualifying, Horsfield couldn’t make it count on his third Open start.

Bryson DeChambeau, +9

Golf’s great entertainer ended his major season with a damp squib. DeChambeau hasn’t figured out how to master the links where artistry trumps science. Troon proved incalculable for the US Open champ.

Cameron Smith, +12

The 2022 Champion Golfer’s bid was over before it started with his first round 80. Smith was one of the big name casualties at the halfway mark.

David Puig, +13

Puig surged to victory in the Malaysian Open on the Asian Tour to secure his spot, but like so many, had a miserable two days in the brutal conditions at Troon.
