Check out this interactive map which displays the 60 major winners since 2000 and their birthplaces.

Unsurprisingly, the map is dominated by USA and in particular, Tiger Woods. Twelve of his 14 major victories have come since 2000, meaning he has a 20% share of the 60 wins on the map.

USA has a narrow majority over the rest of the world with 33 of the 60 wins coming from the other side of the Atlantic, while there are six wins each for Northern Ireland and South Africa, although the latter includes Justin Rose – winner of the 2013 US Open – who was born in Johannesburg before moving to England when he was five.

What you will see is how the map doesn’t correspond with recent Ryder Cup results. Europe have won six out of the past seven matches since 2002 – with USA’s only win coming in 2008 – but have only had ten major winners since 2000, highlighting the differences between the individual and team aspects of the game.
