Max Homa revealed he fulfilled a long-held ambition by teeing it up at North Berwick – hours after making the cut at the Scottish Open.

After securing his weekend spot at the Renaissance Club, Homa headed straight down the road to the historic links for another 18 holes.

The extra practice clearly did the trick as he shot one of the rounds of the day on Saturday, a bogey-free 66.

A video of him playing the 190-year-old North Berwick went viral on social media on Friday evening.

And following his visit, the American confirmed it remains firmly among his favourite tracks.

“I saw a video years ago of North Berwick and it became my favourite I’d never played,” he said.

“I figured while I was over I’d make it some day.

“We got an invite from Scott, the assistant pro there. I knew I was going to be beat but for an American it’s one of those once-in-a-lifetime things. I’d be kicking myself if I didn’t play.

“Scott’s two buddies came out with some beers. It was cool; the people round here are tremendously nice and fun. The golf community here is really tight.

“It’s up there as one of my favourites. The Bandon courses in Oregon are really cool and Riviera is up there for me but it’s the history of it. It’s one of the best golf experiences I’ve ever had.

“We won our match. I did eagle the eighth hole with a three-wood from 212 so I’m pretty proud of that.”
