Situated in Largs,
Ayrshire’s popular and much-loved holiday town, lies Routenburn Golf Course.

Opened in 1914, it is a James Braid classic and although it isn’t the longest course –measuring 5,262 yards – this hilly, moorland layout boasts sloping greens, blind tee shots as well as some breathtaking views over to Arran, the Cumbraes and beyond. They really are among the finest to be seen in Scottish golf.

European Tour and Ryder Cup legend Sam Torrance honed his craft here under the tuition of his father Bob who, of course, was a leading golf tutor and mentor to many of today’s leading golfers.

Routenburn’s par of 68 is very rarely broken due to the course’s tricky par-3s, testing par-4s and deceptively difficult par-5s.

It’s not an easy start, with the first hole an uphill 184-yard par-3 with out of bounds clinging to the right-hand side.

It’s just one of many memorable holes that can be found at Routenburn though and, in addition to its outstanding scenery, it also offers some of the lowest membership fees in the whole of the west of Scotland.
