Brian Campbell is the latest first time winner on the PGA Tour, after clinching a dramatic victory in Mexico.

It was an unusual scene in Vidanta, as Campbell, who is the shortest hitter on the PGA Tour, took on Aldrich Potgieter, a youngster who is at the other end of the driving distance scale, in sudden death for the title.

And it looked like it was all over for Campbell on the second hole of sudden death, after the pair halved the first hole in pars. The 31-year-old’s drive on the par-5 used for the play-off was heading out of bounds, before an incredibly lucky bounce saw his ball back into the semi rough.

Campbell would eventually make a birdie, as his South African opponent had to settle for a par, despite being around 100 yards ahead of him off the tee.

It was certainly a worthwhile bounce and birdie for Campbell, as he’ll now be taking home over $1.2m in prize money.

Meanwhile, he’s also pocketed 500 FedEx Cup points towards the season-long race, which is currently lead by last week’s Genesis Invitational champ Ludvig Aberg.

Perhaps most exciting for Campbell, however, is that he’ll be heading to The Masters, the PGA Championship and have invites to Signature Events, including the upcoming Players Championship.
