There will be no Block party in North Carolina this week, after the cult hero of Oak Hill missed the cut at Quail Hollow.
Michael Block, who finished T15 in 2023, was unable to repeat those incredible heroics and, instead, carded rounds of 75 and 82 to finish on 15-over-par.
Immediately after Friday’s second round, the 48-year-old club pro told Golf.com that he might have enjoyed a different result with more crowd support.
“I love crowds,” Block said. “That’s kind of the funny part is I wish there was a huge crowd on every hole because that’s when I hit my shots. I really do. I always do.
“It’s the weirdest thing. When there’s no one around is when I hit my worst shots.
“That’s something that I need more in my life is a bigger crowd. I just need to play a little better so it could happen.
“I could only imagine what would have happened if I would have been playing really good this week.”

Unfortunately, his comments didn’t go down too well, particularly with some of Block’s fellow competitors.
One-time PGA Tour winner Michael Kim – a regular on social media – shared his tournament thoughts after the cut line fell and one of them was unnecessarily harsh.
“Michael Block,” the American wrote on X alongside three laughing emojis. “Hope the crowd really shows up at Colonial next week so he doesn’t MC.”
Meanwhile, Byeong Hun-An posted: “Wild take…definitely somewhere up there with flat earth’ers.”
Scotland’s Richie Ramsay also chimed in: “Nooooooooooooooooooooooo. The showman needs the crowds. Basically the fans fault.”

Of course, Kim was referring to next week’s PGA Tour, the Charles Schwab Challenge, which Block is listed in the field for.
He teed it up in the event last year, as a result of his finish at the PGA Championship, but missed the cut after rounds of 72 and 74.
While Block’s latest comment caused a stir, he has made clear the positive impact fans can have on his game before.
Ahead of last year’s PGA Championship, he told bunkered.co.uk: “I hope they’re all rooting for me and having a great time.”
“I’m going to give every single one of them a high five, I’ll take all the pictures and autographs in the world during the practice rounds, and I just hope to get the same camaraderie as I did with the Rochester fans.
“Golf is an up and down game, so I hope I’m firing on all cylinders, but if I’m not then that’s okay.”
