• It was an albatross that came at the 1994 Volvo Masters
• His second best? That shot at the Road Hole in 2010
MIGUEL ANGEL JIMENEZ | EUROPEAN TOUR
Miguel Angel Jimenez may have hit a European Tour record ten hole-in-ones in his career – but none of those make his top two golf shots of all-time.
An albatross does though, and you’re unlikely to remember it as it goes all the way back to the 1994 Volvo Masters at Valderrama.
Speaking to Ping on Facebook Live yesterday, the Spaniard explained why that shot in particular was so memorable.

“It was on the 17th hole and I had 194 metres to the hole and 183 metres to the front of the green,” he said. “I hit a 3-iron there and I holed it. It was the first year the hole became a long par-5 which you could reach and I was the first person to make an albatross there.”
And, his second best of all-time came on the Old Course at St Andrews during the 2010 Open Championship, where he famously used the wall on the Road Hole to find the putting surface.

Also in the Q&A, which was held in Ping HQ’s Gold Putter Vault – where the Spaniard has 37 – Jimenez revealed he wants to continue playing for as long as he feels happy and that he can compete at the highest level, but that he might not end up as the only ‘Miguel Angel Jimenez’ in the European Tour’s history books.
"They both want to play professionally" - Miguel Angel Jimenez
When asked what his sons, Miguel Angel and Victor, think of golf, he replied: “I have two sons – 21 and 17 – both of who have scratch handicaps. They both want to play professionally. I think that’s the answer.”
