European captain Colin Montgomerie reveals he will talk to Faldo about Ryder Cup

European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie has revealed he will be taking pointers from 2008 skipper Nick Faldo before heading to Celtic Manor from October 1-3.

Monty is adamant that he will leave no stone unturned in his quest for victory against the Americans this year – even if it means taking advice from Faldo.

However, Monty’s predecessor will have to own up to his failings at Valhalla in 2008, where the US beat the Europeans 11½ – 16½, if his advice is to benefit the current skipper.

Montgomerie plans to meet up with Faldo, who famously overlooked the eight-time Ryder Cup player for one of his wildcards in 2008, during the US Open at Pebble Beach from June 17-20.

Stating his intentions to speak with each of the four most recent captains – namely Faldo, Ian Woosnam, Sam Torrance and Bernhard Langer, Monty said he believed he could learn as much, if not more from Faldo’s ‘failure’ as he would from a victory such as Torrance’s in 2002 – and stated that he ‘will be talking to Nick’.
