First Tee Fitness opens to the public at World of Golf in Glasgow

A new golf specific facility has opened up at World of Golf – Glasgow.

First Tee Fitness is the brainchild of Kenneth McKenzie and Allister Parlane and allows golfers to improve their strength, power and golf specific movements.

McKenzie studied a Masters in Strength and Conditioning at Edinburgh University and throughout his time did various case studies on golf looking at the direct correlation between physical fitness in relation to increasing clubhead speed, which means more distance. This Year, he took up the role of strength and conditioning coach – as well as caddie – for European Tour player Scott Henry. According to the latest stats, the young Scot is one of the longest hitters in Europe.

“Kenny has trained me for a few years now and the best thing about his training is that he gets me to move efficiently as well as train me like an athlete,” said Henry. “The strength and power I have gained since training is helping my driving distance with an average of over 300 yards on the European Tour. He has also helped me stay pain free which I is vital through a long playing season enabling me to practice as much as I need to and play in as many tournaments that I need to.”

Parlane studied marketing at Stirling University and has completed a vast number of fitness qualifications, including two golf specific qualifications through the Titleist Performance Institute in both Amsterdam and San Diego. Last year he completed an internship at the Jason Floyd Golf Academy in Marbella, Spain where he gained vital experience working with top amateur and professional golfers in a full time programme.

The duo say they are delighted to join forces and “very excited” as they look to make First Tee Fitness a “global success”. The new facility is designed specifically to their wants and needs by World of Golf and comes complete with great views looking onto the driving range and short game area.

From their extensive knowledge, they have created an evaluation process that links the golfer’s body into their golf swing. The evaluation will highlight limitations in the body that directly affect the swing. Along with the evaluation, a grading system compares amateurs to PGA Tour professionals – covering strength, power and golf specific movements – giving you a clearer understanding of where you are with your flexibility and/or fitness.

First Tee Fitness offers one-on-one training sessions, group sessions and mobility/ stability classes that will help all golfers “play better and feel better”.
