Sir Nick Faldo has made his position clear after Donald Trump linked the six-time major champion with a surprise role in government.
Addressing supporters at a rally in Montana this week, the former President pointed out Faldo in the crowd – who was sat with his wife Lindsay.
“I’m a golfer, I love golf, and this guy is a major golfer,” Trump began. “He is a major friend of mine. One of the best ever [golfers].
“They knighted him in the UK, and he just knew how to win. He could take people, he’d play the best players in the world, and they always folded in front of him.
“In fact, I think I need to bring him into government because we like to get other people to fold, and his nickname is ‘Foldo’ because he makes everyone [fold], but his name is Faldo.”
“Nick Faldo and his beautiful wife, Lindsay.”

While Faldo’s wife is a staunch supporter of the Republican party, Faldo has issued a statement on X to squash the idea, insisting he has no interest.
“To all those overly concerned,” the Englishman wrote.
“Before I head out the door this morning into the great outdoors of Montana to cast a fly in the river, I will make a short and sweet statement about Former President Donald Trump’s tongue-in-cheek compliment of my competitive fortitude.
“For those who took his comments seriously, I must say, that I am amused that I need to clarify and announce that I have zero interest in and no intention of taking a political position.
“Donald & I have known each other for nearly 20 years through the great game of golf. My interests in the business world revolve around my golf course design company, Faldo Design, and growing the game of golf globally, as I have for over 29 years through my non-profit junior golf program, The Faldo Series.”

The pair’s relationship has strengthened in recent years, but its roots can be traced back over a decade, when Faldo worked with Trump in 2013.
The 67-year-old was asked to re-design the Red and Gold golf courses at Trump’s Doral resort in Miami, Florida.
