Nile Rodgers is the latest name to be announced for The 2014 Ryder Cup Gala Concert taking place on Wednesday September 24 at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow.

The songwriter, and co-founder of disco legends Chic, will take part in a once in a lifetime collaboration with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) prior to September’s match up.

The American will perform hits such as Good Times, Le Freak, Sister Sledge classic We are Family, plus a very unique version of the Daft Punk chart topper Get Lucky, which he co-wrote.
“I am absolutely delighted to have announced Nile Rodgers." - Geoff Ellis

Geoff Ellis, CEO of DF Concerts & Events – the event organisers – is sure Rodger’s performance will add to the stellar line-up.

“I am absolutely delighted to have announced Nile Rodgers today. It’s a long time career ambition of mine to work with Nile and he brings huge star quality to the show,” said Ellis.

“This concert is about so much more than one act, it’s all about the collaborations and presentation. I can’t wait to see it all come to life when September rolls around. Golf, music and arts fans alike are in for an incredible evening of entertainment”.

Who else is on the bill?

Ryder Cup

The concert is being promoted as ‘The Brits meets The Proms’

Four of Scotland’s national arts bodies, Scottish Ballet, RSNO, National Theatre of Scotland and Scottish Opera will perform on the same bill for the first time.

Contemporary acts including Nile Rodgers, Jake Bugg, Texas, Amy Macdonald, Twin Atlantic, Nina Nesbitt, Eddi Reader and Midge Ure are also scheduled to attend.

Teams to get up on stage

Both the European and American teams will be welcomed on stage during the concert, and Mike Cantlay, chairman of VisitScotland, is sure it will be a moment to live long in the memory.

“The Ryder Cup is one of the biggest billings in world sport,” said Cantlay. “So we had to ensure this one off Gala Concert was exceptional in its own right, celebrating the arrival of this spectacular golfing tournament to Scotland in style.

“The entire European and US Ryder Cup teams will be present and introduced on stage by their eminent captains.

“So the stage is set, and the unique warmth of a Glasgow welcome, so appreciated by visitors during the Commonwealth Games, will ensure an absolutely unforgettable evening.”
