A PGA Championship marshal has claimed he was “scared to death” after Wyndham Clark launched his driver during a furious outburst at Quail Hollow.
The 2023 US Open champion’s frustrations boiled over in a tee box meltdown on Sunday.
Clark, who is yet to contend in a major since that win at LA Country Club two years ago, bogeyed four of his first five holes on the Charlotte course and was simmering after another bogey on the par-5 15th.
Then, after blocking his drive right into the bunker on 16 – the start of the brutal Green Mile closing stretch – the American lost it completely.

He turned around and launched his driver through an advertising board, which ironically had the words T-Mobile – one of his main sponsors.
The wretched reaction prompted a marshal to quickly move out of the way as he flinched when the driver came in his direction.
And that man has now spoken out on his side of events on social media.
“I’m the marshal holding the flag,” Chris Deiulio wrote on X, showing a picture of the damaged advertising board from his angle. “Scared me to death.”

The marshal’s post had been viewed well over 150,000 times by Monday morning.
Clark went on to bogey the whole and made pars on the final two to finish on a +4 aggregate, good enough for a share of 50th.
He has not finished inside the top-30 in a major since his maiden victory, when he edged out Rory McIlroy by one stroke in Los Angeles.
