The PGA Tour has confirmed that this year’s Genesis Invitational will be staged at an alternative venue as a result of the wildfires that have devastated large parts of California.
Usually played at Riviera Country Club, the event – hosted by Tiger Woods’ TGR Foundation – will take place elsewhere next month “out of respect for the unfolding situation”.
As of January 16, the fires have killed at least 27 and swept through residential communities, destroying more than 12,300 buildings, since they broke out on January 7.
The cause of the disaster remains unknown.

Confirming plans to move the Genesis Invitational, the PGA Tour said: “Our focus continues to be on the safety and well-being of those affected by the unprecedented natural disaster in Greater Los Angeles.
“We are grateful for the life-saving efforts of first responders and the tireless work being done to put an end to the tragic wildfires.
“In collaboration with Genesis, The Riviera Country Club and TGR Live, and out of respect for the unfolding situation, we have determined that the 20205 Genesis Invitational will be played at an alternate location the week of February 10-16.

“A venue update and additional information will be provided in the coming days.”
The statement added that the tour is making efforts to identify the “most impactful ways” the tournament can support the Los Angeles community and the ongoing relief efforts.
Earlier this week, 15-time major champion Woods responded to the disaster, saying: “It’s just sad. To see what has happened, I’ve known a couple of people who lost everything, so it’s just hard.”
Hideki Matsuyama is the defending champion of the Genesis Invitational.
The Japanese ace held off Luke List and Will Zalatoris to win his tenth PGA Tour title last year.
