It hasn’t been the easiest start to the season for Adam Hadwin.

With the exception of the WM Phoenix Open, the Canadian hasn’t managed a top-20 finish in eight starts on the PGA Tour in 2025 and he has missed the cut in two of his last three starts, including The PLAYERS Championship.

Since January 1, the 37-year-old has slid from 59th on the Official World Golf Ranking to 76th.

So, you would think returning to the Valspar Championship – the scene of his sole PGA Tour victory in 2017 – would provide Hadwin with the good vibes needed to reignite his season.

Instead, he was left red-faced after an extremely embarrassing on-course incident.

Walking off the ninth green in Friday’s second round at Innisbrook, and en route to another unwanted weekend off, Hadwin’s frustrations spilled over and he slammed his club into the ground in a fit of pique.

Unfortunately for him, he brought his club down right next to a sprinkler head, activating the device.

Footage widely shared on social media showed a red-faced Hadwin trying his best to turn the sprinkler off but to no avail.

Finally, an official can be overheard off-camera saying that they’d “phoned it in”, presumably to fetch help from a greenkeeper.

Unfortunately for Hadwin, the week did indeed end prematurely once again.

He carded a five-over 76 on Friday to finish three shots outside the cut-line, leaving his hopes of playing his way into The Masters next month in serious jeopardy.

His wife Jessica, meantime, had this to say about Sprinklergate on social media…

Of course, Hadwin is not the only high-profile player to be driven to an overreaction by the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook. Earlier this week, Patton Kizzire did this, drawing plenty of takes from social media commentators.
