The PGA Tour has told players they are yet to make a decision on next month’s Genesis Invitational amid the wildfires near Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.

Months of dry conditions and extraordinary winds in recent days have caused major fires covering more than 45 square miles in Southern California, with local authorities stating that 180,000 people have been placed under evacuation orders.

The Palisades Fire is the most destructive in LA history, with thousands of structures destroyed. Riviera, the longtime home of the Genesis, was in the area of the evacuation order.

But at this stage, with the course not directly affected by the fires, the PGA Tour are non-committal on hosting next the tournament next month.

“At this point, it is premature to discuss the potential impact on the Genesis Invitational,” the memo read on Thursday.

“Although The Riviera Country Club has not been directly affected by the fires, our immediate concern is the health and welfare of those in the affected communities, including all our members who have ties to Southern California. We will keep the membership updated as the situation develops.”

The Genesis Invitational is a $20million event hosted by Tiger Woods, scheduled for February 12-15. The popular Riviera layout has also been earmarked to host the 2028 Olympics.

While Riviera has currently not been impacted, one local golf course has already been consumed by the fires. Altadena Golf Course, located northeast of Pasadena, announced that it ‘did not survive’ the flames with its clubhouse destroyed.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the loss of Altadena Golf Course,” the club wrote after sharing devastating footage of the damage on Instagram.

“During this time, we’re focused on supporting our community, employees, and everyone affected by this tragic event.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to the brave firefighters, first responders, and volunteers who are working through this.”
