Some jokes just write themselves and, to be honest, even Patrick Cantlay could have seen this one coming.

Look, the world No.11 isn’t renowned for being the world’s quickest professional golfer and he’s been issued another timely reminder.

It happened yesterday in the Big Apple, as Eli Manning hosted a media day for TGL franchise New York Golf Club.

The legendary NFL quarterback is part of the investment group and wanted to pick the brains of team members Rickie Fowler, Matt Fitzpatrick, Xander Schauffele and Cameron Young.

So, of course he asked about one of the indoor league’s most talked about rules. And the answer was picked up by The Athletic’s Gabby Herzig.

“Which player is going to take the most timeouts?” Manning asked.

Without hesitation, Cantlay and Fitzpatrick replied: “It’s gotta be Patrick Cantlay.”

Fittingly, as slow play concerns continue to pop up, TGL – which debuts on January 7 – will feature a shot clock in all matches.

Each player will have 40 seconds to hit their shot, or their team will receive a shot clock violation and a one-shot penalty.

(See, it’s not that difficult.)

It’s worth noting that the timeframe is based on the USGA’s current recommendation for slow play.

Meanwhile, the PGA Tour quartet paid Jimmy Fallon a visit on their media tour, appearing on The Tonight Show.

Before playing a game of Skee Golf, they sat down with Fallon – another investor – to discuss the primetime golf league.

“Xander and I have been down to see the SoFi Center and it’s impressive,” Fowler said. “You can see pictures, but they really don’t do it justice until you see it in person.”

Fallon was announced as part of the investment group last week. He’ll join Manning, Derek Jeter, John McEnroe, Michael Strahan and CC Sabathia in the franchise owned by Steve Cohen.

New York Golf Club will contest the league’s first match against the Bay Golf Club.
